Relations between Mass, Length, Width, and Area Density of Fabric

The Relations between Mass, Length, Width, and Area Density Calculator allows you to calculate various properties of fabric based on the given parameters. The available calculations include determining the mass, length, width, or area density of the fabric.

Using the Calculator

  1. Select the property you wish to calculate from the provided combobox selector. You can choose from length, mass, width, or area density.
  2. Enter the known values in the corresponding input fields:
    • If you want to calculate the mass of the fabric, provide the values for length, width, and area density.
    • If you want to calculate the length of the fabric, provide the values for mass, width, and area density.
    • If you want to calculate the width of the fabric, provide the values for mass, length, and area density.
    • If you want to calculate the area density of the fabric, provide the values for mass, length, and width.

Once you've entered the required values, click the "Calculate" button. The calculator will determine the unknown value based on the known values you provided.

Relation between the mass, the length, the width, and the area density (surface density) of the fabric

Digits after the decimal point: 3
Length, m

Mass, kg

Width, cm

Area density, g/m2

Please note that the area density is defined as the mass per unit area and is commonly expressed in kilograms per square meter (kg/m²) or grams per square meter (g/m²). It is frequently used to describe the thickness of materials such as paper, cardboard, and fabric.

For example, the area density of cotton used in shirts typically ranges from 60 g/m² to 100 g/m², while for jeans, it can be around 400 g/m².

The formula used to relate the mass, length, width, and area density of the fabric is given as:
m = L \cdot w \cdot d

Where:

  • m is the mass of the fabric
  • L is the length of the fabric
  • w is the width of the fabric
  • d is the area density of the fabric

If you know any three of these values, you can easily calculate the unknown parameter using the calculator.
